THAMESIANS WOMEN put in their best performance of the season to win their top-of-the-table clash with Wasps on Saturday.
Showing exceptional courage, determination and skill, Ts twice fought back from behind to beat the League leaders 39-28 in front of a big home crowd.
Three tries in each half also ensured an added bonus point – and takes them to the top of NC1 South East (North).
Ts came flying out the blocks, scoring three unanswered tries through Amber Sheppard, Sophie McLaren and Emily Powell. Jemma Smith converted two of them for a 19-0 lead.
As injuries disrupted Ts, Wasps hit back with three converted tries to go 21-19 ahead.
Jemma Smith put Ts back in front with an early second half penalty, only for Wasps to score another converted try.
At that stage, with Ts down to 14 due to a harsh red card, the momentum appeared to be with the visitors. But Ts’ incredible forwards managed to turn the tide, enabling Sophie McLaren, Amber Sheppard and skipper Emelia Arbouine to stun Wasps with three late tries.
That’s four wins on the bounce now for Ts, who really are on fire.
Another big test awaits this Sunday, when the Women host second-placed Sudbury at St Mary’s. Kick-off is at 2pm. As always, your support really does lift the team and is greatly appreciated.
